It’s no secret that when you own your own business things don’t always go the way you hope. Sometimes when you get those last minute party cancellations, or don’t meet your sales goals for the month it’s easy to get discouraged and sometimes you forget why you started your direct sales business in the first place. Here is a quick and easy system to help you take a step back and reevaluate your business and get started on an action plan to turn things around. After going through these simple steps you will identify your problem areas and feel re-energized as you make your action plan to have your best month ever.
1. What did you accomplish in the last month? While focusing on one aspect of your business examine what you accomplished over the course of the month. For instance if you want to focus on signing on new recruits then write down how many clients you signed on in the last month, and then write how many you wanted to sign on. Once you know how far you were from your goal it’s easier to quantify what you need to do to reach it the next month.
2. What actions did you take that month? Now that you have broken down what you wanted to accomplish as opposed to what you did accomplish now write down everything you did that month in relation to this aspect of your business. For the new recruits example perhaps you called three people a day, or held an opportunity night. Write down every action you took over the course of the month to build this aspect your business.
3. What didn’t you do that you should have? After writing all of the steps you took to accomplish your goal the next step isn’t as much fun. Write down everything you know you should have done but maybe got put on the back burner. For instance did you put off making prospecting calls, or met a potential client but didn’t follow up? The first step is admitting your problem, once you know what was lacking it’s easy to come up with an action plan to fix it!
4. Create an action plan for next month! Look at everything you wrote down for steps 1-3 now create an action plan for your next month. Take a look at what worked and do more of those things, also look at what you didn’t do last month that you think would have helped and incorporate them. The key is not to make too many changes but to make sure you are sticking to what you said you would do. This not only is going to increase your results but you will be in integrity with yourself which will make the going a lot easier.
You can do this once a month, a week, or each day to evaluate your business. In this way you are giving yourself feedback and can make the small changes that will lead to huge success. Be sure to recognize yourself for your accomplishments and stay motivated. You can also do this with your team or a partner and hold each other accountable.
